INSURANCE CLAIM PROCESS FOR WATER, MOLD, FIRE, & SMOKE DAMAGE:
CONTACT BENJAMIN BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BEFORE FILING AN INSURANCE CLAIM FOR A FREE INSPECTION SO WE CAN INSPECT YOUR DAMAGE TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT IT WARRANTS AN INSURANCE CLAIM. We will bring our inspection kit and use our moisture meters to find all of the damaged areas in order to give you an estimate for the incurred damage costs. We will take pictures, diagram the area and document moisture readings in cases of water damage for items in the affected and unaffected areas, and document all damaged items.
IF YOU HAVE DAMAGE WORTHY OF AN INSURANCE CLAIM, you then you call your homeowner’s insurance provider IMMEDIATELY to file a claim to get a claim number and initiate them to send an insurance adjuster to assess the damage. Most times the insurance company will give us the green light after calling in the claim to go ahead and start removing water with our water extraction equipment and then setup our air movers, air scrubbers with HEPA filters, and dehumidifiers so that the existing water doesn’t cause more secondary damage and create a mold problem. If they want us to wait until after they inspect, you then tell us your claim number, adjuster’s name and phone number, and the time and date that they would like to inspect your home. We then meet with your insurance adjuster FREE OF CHARGE to make sure they find all of the damage and include it in their estimate’s scope of repair work.
We then repair or replace the items noted on the insurance estimate which may include damaged drywall, insulation, trim work, painting, flooring, cabinets, etc. for the insurance replacement cost which is typically based on pricing from Xactimate, the estimating software used by the majority of insurance companies that is adjusted to reflect local construction costs. After the work is completed we bill the insurance company so they will release the funds to pay us for the work that was completed.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE A WATER PROBLEM THAT IS NOT FIXED IMMEDIATELY MOLD CAN START TO GROW IN 24 – 48 HOURS. ONCE MOLD OCCURS THE JOB BECOMES MORE DIFFICULT AND THEREFORE MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE YOU CANNOT KILL MOLD EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF COMPANIES WILL TRY TO TELL YOU BLEACH OR OTHER CHEMICALS WILL DO SO. INSTEAD YOU HAVE TO PHYSICALLY CONTAIN AND REMOVE THE MOLD SO IT DOESN’T SPREAD TO OTHER PARTS OF THE HOUSE (I.E. MOLD SPORES IN THE AIR). PLUS, WATER PROBLEMS IN AFFECTED AREAS CAN EVAPORATE INTO THE AIR AND MIGRATE TO UNAFFECTED AREAS AND CAUSE SECONDARY WATER DAMAGE TO THOSE AREAS.
